Basic Accessorizing
Every home should have at least one very large, fabulous clear glass vase which
serves the same purpose as the "basic black dress" in your wardrobe. You can add color
and/or sparkle to any room, for any season, just by changing the contents in the vase. I
like to use them to add color to a kitchen by filling one with lemons, one with limes, and
one with oranges or apples. Of course you will want to take your specific design & color
theme into consideration when you are both buying & filling your vase(s).
You can place a vase/vases on a coffee table, a side bar, dresser, entry table, fireplace
mantel or just about anywhere you want a real punch.
You can change the contents to reflect the changing seasons and holidays. For the fall
season, and Halloween or Thanksgiving add miniature pumpkins or gourds. For the winter
season, and at Christmas add ornaments, candy canes or pine cones. You can use small
river rocks and bamboo for a "zen" spring or summer feel. How about using water
and floating candles? You can add fresh flowers, dried flowers or twigs, Its all up to
you and your imagination.
You can buy these vases at art & craft stores for nearly nothing, and they can become the
jewels that truly enhance your home decor.
Quick Fall Table Tips
1) For a beautiful dinner table for Thanksgiving or any time in the fall, buy mini
pumpkins, cut the tops off, place a tealight candle in the middle and push it down in the
center of the pumpkin. Light the candle, and lean the top on the side....sooo colorful!
2) Scoop out the centers of mini pumpkins and refill with pumpkin soup, cover with the top
to keep the soup warm, or fill with pumpkin pudding, or even pumpkin pie filling! Yummy
and so pretty on the table!
3) For a Fabulous center piece, use a larger pumpkin, cut off the top, remove the seeds,
use a florist sponge, and add fresh fall flowers, or dried flowers if preferred, and
center the pumpkin on a bed of dried fall leaves.
4) Use silk leaves in fall colors, wire and florist tape to create colorful fall napkin
rings.
5) Change out your vases with branches, fall colored fresh, dried or silk flowers. To
change the atmosphere from summer to fall in your home.
Winter and Holday decoration Ideas
For a greater impact with your Holiday decorations, use only 1 or 2 colors and always work
with your current color scheme. Add alot of greens (holly etc.) to pull the decorations
together.
More Ideas.....................
1) For an elegant look, use the same color decorations as the predominant color in your
color scheme. For example if your home has a lot of gold tones use gold, champagne or
cinnamon spice colored decorations. If your home is predominantly blue use varying shades
of blue and silver.
2) For a "pop" of color, use a complimentary color (opposite on the color wheel) of your
predominant color. If your home has a lot of gold tones use burgundy, green use red, blue
use copper, etc.
3) Using white, blue and silver will always put the ""chill"" of winter into decor.
4) Use wired ribbon on your tree, to wrap around throw pillows, and as napkin rings to
further bring your holiday design together.
5) with water soluble glue, glue glitter around the rim, stem and base of regular wine
glasses, fill half full with salt rock or kosher salt, push a tealight in the center,
light and use at place settings.
6) For an elegant center piece use a shallow pedestal bowl and fill with the same colored
ornaments only vary the texture, shape and finish such as glass, glitter covered, velvet
covered, mosaic, etc.
7) Use your versatile glass vase for a larger version of the wine glass place setting, or
instead of using candles fill half with salt and use painted twigs with glitter to create
fabulous arrangements.
